Building Your Health Practices

High performing people are reliable to create and sustain practices. Their practices position them to perform in life.

A practice is defined as:
To carry out or perform (a particular activity, method, or custom) habitually or regularly.

What I know about you is that you are committed to living your best life! With this in mind, I want to have a conversation with you about how creating practices will set you up to live the life you want.

Let’s be Honest…Creating Practices is Not “Sexy”

When you hear the word practice are you inspired and called into action?

I think most people don’t wake up in the morning thinking: “Today, I want to create practices in my life!”On the contrary, I think for most people hearing the word practice sounds like WORK

It’s not wrong that we aren’t inspired at the thought of creating practices. I think it’s a part of human nature.

When something occurs like work or something that we “should” do, we don’t get warm and fuzzy about it. We don’t necessarily feel excited about the thought of doing the right thing.

The key to creating the willingness and excitement in creating practices is two-fold: Creating your “Why” and “What’s at Stake” for you in creating practices.

What it Takes to Create Powerful Practices

Your “Why” and “What’s at Stake” are what I call Power Keys to Success. These two keys are at the source of taking a goal from an idea to a result.

Create Your Why

Your “Why” is your reason for creating the practice. There are times when we are faced with very serious consequences if we don’t take action. For instance, if you have high blood sugar and you are feeling sick due to elevated sugars you may be motivated to take action and change your eating habits. Why? Because you want to feel better.

Things don’t have to be severe in order for you to create your Why. You get to say what your why will be.

What’s an area of your life that you are committing to taking to another level? I invite you to speculate. What “Why” can you create?

Create What’s at Stake

The next Power Key is creating “What’s at Stake” for you in the area you are working on. What’s at Stake is known upon answering IF you don’t fulfill on what you are committed to what will happen? In using the example above regarding elevated blood sugar levels what could be at stake is medical costs related to diabetes, complications from diabetes such as blindness or even amputation for serious infections. Ultimately what’s at stake is your life. You could die from complications related to diabetes.

What’s at stake is the dire consequence of you not altering the area you are committed to. Question for you: What’s at Stake for you in the area you are committed to working on right now in your life?

Creating Your Personal Practices

The best way to go about actually creating your practices is the Keep it Simple Sweetie, K.I.S.S. approach. Sometimes we can feel like there are a lot of things you see you need to work on. Thinking we need to create a lot of new practices makes sense, especially when you are super committed.

The thing to keep in mind is “Can I maintain the practices I’m creating?” My personal approach is to choose 1 or 2 simple practices I can implement.”

Keeping it simple sets you up to stick with your practices over time.

The Secret to Creating Sustainable Practices

In my experience the number one secret to creating and maintaining practices is to create them inside of Community. Getting connected with like minded people who are up to something and empowering will set you up to build and maintain the practices you create.

Be Willing to Try it and Work It Out

In my experience a pitfall people fall into in the area of creating new practices is they give up when they try and are not able to stick with a habit. This is a huge mistake. It takes time to build and create consistency in a new practice.

Being able to give yourself room to build the practice is critical.

I invite you to create your Why and What’s at Stake for You in the area you are working on in your life right now. Keep it simple and get around people who will believe in you and cheer you on! Give yourself room for the process. Taking on these suggestions will set you up for success!
